Vik UppalChief Executive Officer
Vik Uppal is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of Terra Capital Partners, a member of Terra’s Board of Directors, and a board member of Terra Property Trust, having joined as part of Axar Capital Management’s investment in Terra. At Axar, Mr. Uppal was a Partner and Head of Real Estate. Prior to Axar, Mr. Uppal was a Managing Director on the Investment Team at Fortress Investment Group’s Credit and Real Estate Funds and Co-Head of North American Real Estate Investments at Mount Kellett Capital Management, a private investment organization with over $7 billion of assets under management. Mr. Uppal holds a BS from the University of St. Thomas and an MS from Columbia University.
Bruce BatkinVice Chairman
Bruce Batkin co-founded and is Vice Chairman of Terra Capital Partners. Mr. Batkin has over 40 years’ experience in real estate acquisition, finance, development, management and investment banking. Prior to founding Terra, he held senior management positions at Merrill Lynch, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, ABN Amro and several private real estate development partnerships. He is a member of the Harvard Alumni Real Estate Board, the Cornell Real Estate Council and the Committee for Economic Development; is on the Advisory Board of the Baker Program in Real Estate at Cornell University and the Dean’s Advisory Council of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning at Cornell University; and is a participant in the semiannual Yale CEO Summit. Mr. Batkin received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Dan CoopermanChief Originations Officer
Dan Cooperman is Chief Originations Officer responsible for transaction origination. Mr. Cooperman has over 18 years’ experience in acquisition, financing, leasing, and management of commercial real estate nationwide. Prior to joining Terra in 2003, Mr. Cooperman managed the debt placement activities of The Greenwich Group International, a real estate investment banking firm. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Vice President in Chase Manhattan Bank’s Global Properties Group, where he worked on the bank’s strategic real estate acquisitions and divestitures, and also spent three years in acquisitions and asset management at JGS, a Japanese conglomerate with global real estate holdings. Mr. Cooperman received his BS in Finance from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Gregory PinkusChief Financial Officer
Gregory Pinkus is Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Terra Capital Partners. Mr. Pinkus has over 25 years’ experience in accounting and finance at Fortune 100 and high growth companies. Prior to joining Terra, he served as Controller for W.P. Carey & Co. and as Controller and Vice President of finance for several early-stage technology companies. Additionally, he managed large-scale IT budgets at New York Life Insurance Company and oversaw an international reporting group at Bank of America. Mr. Pinkus is a Certified Public Accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He received his BS in Accounting from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Donald SternChief Legal Officer
Donald Stern is Chief Legal Officer at Terra Capital Partners, having joined as part of Axar Capital Management’s investment in Terra. At Axar, Mr. Stern was Transactional Counsel within Axar’s Real Estate Investment Team. Prior to joining Axar, Mr. Stern was a Managing Director on the Real Estate Investment Team at Mount Kellett Capital Management. Prior to Mount Kellett, Mr. Stern was a Senior Partner at the law firm of Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP in the real estate department, where he was responsible for client relationships and a broad range of real estate transactions involving purchase and sale transactions, financings, joint ventures, development, distressed and other transactions relating to every asset class (office, hotel, resort, retail, multifamily, industrial, mixed-use, etc). Mr. Stern was a lawyer with Cleary Gottlieb for 34 years. He holds an LLB from Harvard Law School and an AB from Harvard College.
Michael MuscatManaging Director
Michael Muscat is a Managing Director responsible for supervising transaction underwriting and asset management. Mr. Muscat has over 15 years’ experience in the acquisition, financing, and management of over $5 billion of commercial real estate. Prior to joining Terra, Mr. Muscat was a Director at Citigroup, where he originated and underwrote commercial real estate high-yield debt and joint venture transactions. He also took the lead role in asset managing proprietary investments and enhancing joint venture partner relationships. Previously, he was a Vice President in J.P. Morgan Investment Management’s Real Estate Group, overseeing approximately $1 billion of core and value-added real estate assets for the firm’s commingled funds and separate account clients. Mr. Muscat holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a Certified Public Accountant. He received his BS and MBA degrees from New York University’s Stern School of Business.
Mike Fishbein is a Director responsible for transaction origination, underwriting and financial analysis. Mr. Fishbein has over 12 years’ experience in the financing, asset management and disposition of commercial real estate. Prior to joining Terra, Mr. Fishbein was a Vice President at GreensLedge Capital Markets where he focused on raising capital for distressed and special situation recapitalizations. Previously, he was at Natixis Real Estate Capital, where he was responsible for underwriting, structuring and securitizing commercial mortgages, as well as portfolio management for balance sheet loans. Mr. Fishbein’s career also includes experience evaluating debt and equity investments at PCCP, LLC and credit analysis on CMBS transactions at Fitch Ratings. Mr. Fishbein received his Bachelor of Arts degree with Honors in Economics from Colgate University and an MBA degree from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.
Bradley Walker is a Director responsible for the sourcing and execution of new investments across the capital stack, having joined as part of Axar’s investment in Terra. At Axar, Mr. Walker served as the Director on the Real Estate Investment Team. Prior to Axar, Mr. Walker served as a Vice President at Mount Kellett Capital Management and an Analyst at Brookfield Asset Management. Mr. Walker received his Bachelor of Science degree from the Cornell University School of Hotel Administration.
Leighton ZemaHead of Business Development
Leighton joined Terra in 2019 and leads all Business Development and Investor Relations functions at the firm. Prior to Terra, Leighton was a Senior Director at KLS Diversified Asset Management, a $4bn multi-strategy credit hedge fund and private credit manager. Before KLS, Leighton was a Director at Sound Point Capital, an alternative credit asset manager. At Sound Point, Leighton led the private client effort and the firm’s AUM increased to over $15bn, during his tenure. Leighton has 13 years of experience in financial services and previously held senior positions at Neuberger Berman, Lyxor Asset Management and Deutsche Bank. Leighton earned both his MBA and BS in Business Administration from Villanova University. He served as a graduate research fellow during his graduate studies and was awarded a full tuition scholarship. During undergraduate, he was awarded a full athletic scholarship as part of Villanova’s varsity football team.
